Ecuador Enters Chinese Market with Yellow Dragon Fruit Exports

Historic Moment for Ecuador-China Trade Relations

Shanghai, China – In a significant development for bilateral trade, Ecuador has commenced the export of yellow dragon fruit to China. This was highlighted at the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, where Jorge Cevallos, the commercial counselor of the Ecuadorian Embassy to China, presented the fruit.

First Import of Ecuadorian Yellow Dragon Fruit to Shanghai Port

This event marks the first time that the Shanghai Port has imported Ecuadorian yellow dragon fruit since it was approved for import by China’s General Administration of Customs in 2022. This move comes after the successful conclusion of the China-Ecuador Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations in February this year.

Impact of the China-Ecuador FTA

Cevallos expressed confidence in the Chinese market, highlighting its strength and consumer interest in quality fruit. He noted that the current 20% tariff on the fruit would decrease, making it more affordable for Chinese consumers once the FTA comes into force. This initiative is expected to diversify Ecuadorian exports to China, strengthening the trade ties between the two nations.
